Water Changes Everything!

We're sharing two stories that will give you an idea of how access to clean water can truly be life-changing.

Below, you'll meet Lillian and Debora. Both are loving mothers who work hard to care for their families. Both collect water daily, yet their realities are so different. And it's all because of water.đź’§

This is Lillian. She is a 44-year-old mother of six children. We met her while she was collecting water from a spring that is not yet protected. As you can see, the spring is swampy, but she collects water here, because it's her only option. She shared honestly with us the effect this water has on her family:

"This water has made our life difficult because most of the time our children complain of stomach aches."

They take their children to the hospital for treatment when they can, but for a mother of six in the rural Maasai land of Kenya, that's not an easy journey, nor is it inexpensive.

Lillian knows that if the spring she visits daily could be protected, their lives and health would greatly improve, allowing their children to attend school regularly. Today, Lillian and her family are still waiting, collecting water from this spring and praying for God to provide a clean water source. She is just one of many mothers, fathers, and children who are looking to God to provide for them.

By contrast, meet Debora, a 32-year-old mother of four children. She tells us what life was like before a spring was protected near their village. She says,

“Our lives were in great danger because we were sharing water with animals. Sometimes we would go to collect water, and then get there, only to find it very dirty and stirred up by the animals entering the water to drink.”

She went on to share that they would have to sit and wait for the dirt to settle a bit, letting the water become clear again before they could collect it.

For many years, they knew that getting clean and safe water for drinking was necessary, but this seemed to be impossible. She said that what had been challenging their lives has now been solved, and they now enjoy safer water. This has completely changed their lives in the village. The suffering from typhoid, which has been common among them, will now come to an end.

She added with gratitude:

“We do not have enough words to express our happiness, and we would love to reward the well-wishers (donors) for enabling this project to be installed in our village. Instead, I am dedicating them to God for more blessings!
