Resilience is striking, and so is joy

Last year, I traveled to Kenya, and I was so struck by the resilience of the people I met there. Life is anything but convenient in East Africa. You've likely seen the iconic photos of girls and women carrying up to 40lbs of (often dirty) water on their heads for miles, often in the dusty and dry heat. Never a complaint, almost always a smile.
As Communications Director for Hydrating Humanity, the purpose of my trip was to document stories through video and photography, to show the profound ripple effects and opportunities that access to clean water creates. That's why I roughed several miles of rocky terrain with 5th graders to fetch water from a near by river, where animals also drink, and defecate. (Yuck!) I cannot even imagine drinking that water, but these kids don’t have a choice.
I also rode in the drill rig and was delighted by the raw enthusiasm and joy of the hundreds of students, teachers and community elders, as we pulled into their school. (You can hear their excitement in the snippet of unedited video footage above!)
Why were they celebrating so much? This was the moment so many in their community had been praying for – not for a few months or years, but for generations.

Resilience is striking, but so is joy. This kind of joy made me wish I could help answer the prayers of the many more communities who are desperate for this precious resource. While I knew I couldn't afford to sponsor an entire well, I realized I could do something small that would help families, kids and entire communities gain access to clean water and have lasting impact. I joined One Tribe, and began giving just $25 per month, knowing that 100% of it goes to clean water projects.
The honest truth is that there are many, many more people praying for clean water. We can reach them faster, if you choose to join us. You don't need enormous resources, just the willingness to contribute a little bit each month.
Inside One Tribe, you'll receive monthly updates with photos and location details of the exact villages, schools and communities that you've impacted every single month. You may never get to meet these beautiful people, but through this community, you can experience their joy of receive fresh water for the first time, month-after-month! I encourage you join One Tribe and find out for yourself.
