The Power of Community
We're highlighting some of our most inspiring stories of transformation this month! Today, we are bragging on our monthly community of givers, One Tribe. These faithful friends are the reason that this Maasai school in one of the most remote parts of Kenya, now has access to clean water.
Can you imagine being a thirsty fifth-grade girl or boy, walking a long footpath in the hot sun in search of water? When you arrive, the only water available is from a contaminated puddle or stream, that's also shared with animals. You still have to get it back to school. For a thin ten-year-old, that means dragging a heavy bucket uphill. And after all that effort, the very water meant to quench your thirst is likely to make you sick, and therefore, unable to attend school.
The cycle is unfair but for the children at Olosentu Comprehensive School (and many others,) that hardship is part of attending school, and every school in the area reports that illnesses and intestinal worms from contaminated water are common.
But today, by the power of a community, life-changing impact now ripples through the school and the surrounding area. A deep well drilled by Hydrating Humanity on the school’s grounds means children can satisfy their thirst with clean, safe water. The long walk and the burden of dragging water back one bucket at a time have been lifted from their school day. One Tribe's commitment to lifetime maintenance and repair for every pump assures that water will keep flowing.
For parents, there is comfort in knowing that their children have safe water to drink. For the children, there is the simple relief of being thirsty—and having good water close by.

Today, we join Nicholas and say "Thank You!" to all the One Tribe members, who have lifted a burden no child should have to carry.
